Iyengar Yoga
- Iyengar Yoga: This is another modern adaptation of hatha yoga primarily concentrating on the ideas of balance and focus. By maintaining a perfect posture for a certain period of time it helps boost concentration and result in a state of balance between mind and body. It is a combination of breathing patterns, physical postures, and meditation. Often resulting in a boost in flexibility and inner core strength by aligning to a particular position.
Iyengar Yoga owes its name to its “inventor”: B.K.S. Iyengar. Iyengar Yoga is a Yoga form in which the Asanas and Pranayama are central, so the postures and breathing are both of great importance.
The basic elements of Iyengar Yoga is mainly concerned with three so-called basic elements. These elements can be divided into: technique, series, and timing. Technique stands for the precision in which the Yoga postures and breathing are performed.
Sequences represent the sequences in which the Asanas and breathing exercises are to be performed. The series are important because only fixed sequences of Yoga postures in combination with certain breathing techniques can achieve a specific goal.
Timing represents the duration of each Asana and breathing exercise. Bringing these three elements into balance is the precondition for achieving your goals. What makes Iyengar Yoga unique Iyengar Yoga is not necessarily different from other Yoga forms by the specific emphasis on the postures and breathing.
The materials used in the Iyengar Yoga classes ensure that the exercises can be performed better and require less muscle strength. Often the attributes ensure that you can be supported in a certain position or that your breathing can be performed better. Certainly as a novice Yogi it can be useful to first perform an Asana with support.
The main purpose of the attributes is therefore to make Yoga accessible to all types of people, from young to old!
